Pictures of Words — July Notes

A slight change of format this time around. Rather than type out the notes for the currently inked pens I decided to write a few sentences with each one and use those pages as the means of conveying my thoughts. More use of and focus on the pens and their output rather than a keyboard and this lovely serif font.

Inked Right Now

The Metropolitan looks like a two year old learning to feed itself. Such is the nature of its current ink. The Metropolitan looks like a two year old learning to feed itself. Such is the nature of its current ink.

Thinking About

When I got a new computer a few months back, I did so with the mindset that it was taking up most of the discretionary spending budget for the remainder of the year. I don’t typically put hard numbers on that but made it part of my thinking when choosing how much to spend on the computer. My pen buying has slowed dramatically in the last two years. I feel much more comfortable with my collection, the pens I let go of, and my own sense of where I’m going. Two things persist in the want column — a Schon Monoc nib and a Tamenuri Studio pen. The work that Ian and Michal do excites me. I would love the chance to see and try either item in person before committing the money but that seems unlikely. Does that stop me from taking the plunge? Maybe. I’d like to feel assured I’ve chosen the right one the first time around given their specialized nature. We’ll see what happens in the second half of the year.
