This year’s daily journal starts with transcribing some Oscar Wilde.
The notebook is a Quartier Libre A5 I found at Barnes & Noble. The cover makes me think of much warmer weather, which helps here in January. Paper quality is good. More tooth than I might like but no feathering or bleed through.
I chose The Ballad of Reading Gaol to work with. The words and phrasing are so lyrical that it makes the subject matter much more bearable than it might otherwise be.
The pen is a Karas Fountain K. It is quite a comfortable pen to use. I love the finish Karas achieves on their anodized aluminum. If metal can feel like silk to the touch, this is it.
So far, it’s a good start to what will be a more variable thing than last year’s journal was. Part of me looks forward to the freedom of subject choice and part of me worries (for no good reason yet) that it may lead to derailment. It feels silly even to entertain that thought, but I had it all the same. Such is my nature. Let’s put it to the side and keep moving forward.
