I changed the site template to try something that shows more posts in less space. May keep it, may not. We’ll see.
Pilot Legance 89S with Pilot Black
Sheaffer 440 with Sheaffer Purple
Leonardo Momento Zero with Sailor Tokiwa-matsu
Gone from last time: Parker Rialto, Wahl Eversharp Skyline, Parker Duofold International.
The Pilot and Sheaffer were introduced in the 8/5 entry. They came a bit before that but issues with getting the blog folder synced delayed publication. Anyway, both pens have been excellent so far. I decided to put the 89S straight into the (mostly) daily journaling role. The Pilot’s writing experience is a substantial change from last month’s broad italic Duofold. It’s less expressive with my handwriting but still very satisfying to use. The Sheaffer is unassuming next to the Pilot. I feel a lot of the Parker 45 in the 440. That takes it a long way in my book.
The Leonardo has come out of hiding with Tokiwa-matsu. I don’t know that I would have put these two together if not for deliberately looking at pens and inks that have been on the bench a while. Every time I see a nice looking Momento Zero Grande online and feel temptation, I must remind myself that the regular size model is the right size for me. Tokiwa-matsu is a changeable ink in this pen. If it has sat for a day or two and what’s in the feed concentrates, it starts very dark with red sheen. As the writing goes on and the feed is refreshed with ink from the converter, the color lightens to something more akin to its translated name of pine green or evergreen.
I finally sent a pen out for nib grinding. The Sailor Pro Gear Slim music nib will be worked on by Kirk Speer at Pen Realm. Kirk was helpful in answering my questions about what type of grind might suit the nib. It will be reversible with a stub line. Turnaround is 3-4 months, which I’m sure will pass before I even realize it.
Not so much a thought for the future, but something that recently happened.
Thanks to my brother, I got to see Metallica at Gillette Stadium. I’m not much of a concert goer, even less so for events this big. Nonetheless, I was excited because Metallica’s music has been meaningful to me since I borrowed someone’s Black Album CD in 9th grade. Whatever I write here won’t adequately express how the music felt that night, but it surpassed all expectations. The day after, I did nothing but listen to more Metallica. Old, new, everything. Seeing the live show renewed something about the music inside me. I’m still feeling it.
